Storage technology comprises the most expensive infra structure component in IT and data is an organization’s most irreplaceable asset.  Yet, both are typically entrusted for administration and management to IT personnel who have limited skills, knowledge and tools for performing the job. 

After completing this intensive 2 day professional development work shop, participants will be certified to possess an understanding of:

·         Fundamentals of data storage and storage management

·         The expanding number of approaches for provisioning applications with the type of storage that they need and for managing data movement through the storage infra structure.

·         Business centric data management needs analysis and requirements specification

·         Best practices for building and maintaining a data management infra structure that delivers business value to an organization

The CDMP program is designed for IT professionals and individuals tasked with storage management and administration.  It is also suitable for non technical business managers, including auditors, vendor sales and marketing personnel, and investors who desire to obtain competency in data management best practices and technology.  While some content is of a technical nature, it will be presented in terms and language familiar to business as well as technology practitioners. 

There are no prerequisites for this training, which is based on the consulting and research work of Toigo Partners International LLC.

1 -    Day One:  Fundamentals of Data Storage Technology

·         Participants will learn basic data storage concepts and technologies including disk and tape technology, interface evolution, disk aggregation techniques such as RAID, array architectures, and storage topologies. 

·         Participants will also develop an understanding of file systems and block level storage and of application-based storage requirements analysis.

·         Participants will also receive a primer on storage architecture and will discover how storage provisioning is accomplished in various architectural models.

·         Along the way, trainees will be acquainted with the elements of a business value model for evaluating storage technology options and will develop a better understanding of the often-confusing terminology surrounding – and a more critical perspective of – vendor product offerings to help them discriminate between solutions that offer real business worth.

2 -    Day Two:  From Storage Management to Data Management

·         The second day of the CDMP workshop will begin with a discussion of business metrics that should guide storage technology acquisitions.  Participants will be acquainted with Total Cost of Ownership models, Return on Investment (ROI) analysis and payback analysis

·         Participants will discuss the functionality of storage management software in detail.  The role of Virtualization, Global Namespace, and policy-based automation in simplifying administration and automating data management will be discussed in depth

·         Participants will engage in a scenario-based workshop that requires them to apply what they have learned to resolve several problem scenarios based on real-world companies

·         An examination will be administered upon completion and trainees will have the option of meeting informally with trainers to discuss specific issues in their environments
